Transfer & Impact
Difficult to attribute at the early stages of the project, but the appraoch follows grounded theory and inductive research practice
Conceptual contributions: asking to understand terms “on the ground”
Interest in fostering alternative spaces of participation and engagement
Overall Project Identity
Team A1 are the conceptually-focused project in Pillar A focusing on informal elements of strcutural change and transition in the region, beyond clear policy interventions. Aiming to deconstruct and reflect upon the meanings of taken-for-granted terms around strcutural change, transition, participation, and so on, these researchers focus on local perspectives of these phenomena. They take a broad perspective on participation, rather than conventional understandings of political engagement.
Using practice theories enlivened by affective and emotive approaches, Team A1 questions the imaginaries of transition as linear, policy-driven processes, emphasizing on-the-ground, “under the radar,” lived, practiced, and affective elements of transformation. They understand that Strukturwandel is not a programme, “we do not live in a programmable world.” They also attend to those who enact change in everyday practices, in such initiatives as community groups, in the care sector, and so on, without necessarily associating these changes with sustainability initiatives, or EU interventions.
This perspective forgrounds experiences, emotions and materiality, challenging existing narratives and bringing attention to the complexities unfold in practice
